Worcester WW I and WW II Memorials

This article is the first in a series to be provided by the Worcester Historical Society on our social media sites. The articles will be informative in their scope and focus on Worcester history in the form of people, places, things, and events that shaped the township.

Did you know that Worcester Township has its own memorials to the soldiers who fought in WW I and WW II? These monuments are located in Heebner Park near the band gazebo. The tranquil setting was the work of Nick Gregory and his colleagues of BSA Troop 167 in fulfillment of Nick’s Eagle Scout Project in 2018.
The WW I monument (center photo) was dedicated in 1919. It was placed outside, in front of the old brick Worcester School on Skippack Pike. It stayed there for many years and was removed before construction of the current elementary school. The bronze WW II monument on the left was commissioned in 1949. It was placed inside the same Worcester School until its demolition. It has remained in storage many years and was recently moved to Heebner Park.
We will be following up this article with stories about those who were killed in WW I and WW II. In the meantime, please visit the Historical Society Museum in Center Point and see our exhibit on “Worcester at War”.
